A common causation mistake
People think expensive smart switches fail less. Actually, switches that are installed correctly fail less. The expensive ones often get installed by electricians, so the causation runs the other way. A cheap switch in a proper box can outlast an expensive switch in a damp wall.
When to replace
If the switch feels hot, buzzes, smells, or the remote latency gets worse after a battery change, replace it. Do not wait for a safety issue.
Scenario C: Commercial robot vacuum

How to branch by use case
If the unit runs 8 hours a day in a food warehouse, do maintenance every shift. If it runs 2 hours a day in an office, weekly is usually enough. If it runs in a dusty construction office, treat it like a warehouse unit. The schedule should match the environment, not the brochure.
When to replace
If runtime drops below 60 percent after a new battery, if the motor whines, or if navigation fails after a sensor clean, replacement is usually cheaper than another repair cycle.
Scenario D: Electric shaver
What actually kills them
