These are real issues. Compared to Netgear's Nighthawk app or Asus's AiMesh, TP-Link's consumer software feels a generation behind. But for 90% of business use cases, hardware reliability outweighs software aesthetics.
The Bottom Line
If you have unlimited budget and a dedicated IT team who loves tweaking settings, by all means go with Ubiquiti or Ruckus. But if you're a small business, a mid-sized office, or a managed service provider who needs something that works out of the box and keeps working — TP-Link delivers more value per dollar than any brand I've tested.
I've been burned by premium brands promising the moon and delivering headaches. I've also been surprised by budget brands failing under load. TP-Link sits in the sweet spot: reliable enough for mission-critical work, priced fairly enough that you don't cry when you need to upgrade.
To be fair, Netgear's enterprise line (Orbi Pro) is strong. Asus's gaming routers have fantastic throughput. But for general business networking? I'll take the system that doesn't cause calls in the middle of the night.
My advice: test one TP-Link product in your environment. A Deco XE75 mesh kit, or an Omada EAP670 access point. Run it for 30 days. Compare it side by side with your current setup. I think you'll be surprised.
